My Max Hydration Method Experience

*Repost from T0B 6/26/15-

Earlier this year I said I would give some hair updates from time to time. This post was a long time coming but stuff kept getting in the way. On top of that we’ve had a lot of unexpected life happenings to deal with these past few weeks. I’m glad I can finally sit down and do a post I’ve been eager to share with you.

IMG_20150421_180711_680Back in March I learned another way to care for my hair that I had never heard of before. It’s called the Maximum Hydration Method (MHM). I read blog after blog and site after site. I even watched as many videos as I could find. By the last week of the month I was ready to begin my own MHM journey. The MHM is a 6 step process you do to your hair to help it reach its highest level of hydration. Doing this can help your hair to form curls from root to tip. The thing with this method you it is strongly suggested you do ALL of the steps EVERY DAY for 7 whole days. After that you can do it every other day, every 3 days, or however you choose. It is suggested you don’t go longer than 5 days without redoing the steps. This was my hair in the beginning:

As you can see there’s more frizz than curls. For the sake of this post the pics I will now share is how my curls are clumping today.
My first time doing MHM I started out with the Cherry Lola Caramel Treatment (CLCT) as is suggested. This is how it looks when it’s all mixed:

This stuff is messy when you put it on. I drips everywhere. I do like that it does smell like caramel. I put a dirty towel on the bathroom floor under me and around my neck to control some of the mess.

The first step in the method is to clarify using baking soda or apple cider vinegar in diluted conditioner. I do not do that step when I do the CLCT. It is recommended to skip the clarifying step when doing the treatment.

Next I use a mix of 2 oz. of conditioner and 5 oz. of water to deep condition my hair under my hair steamer. I put my hair up into 4 sections with butterfly clips. After sitting under the steamer for 20 minutes for deep conditioning I rinse out then prep my hair for the clay treatment. (Now I only deep condition every 2 weeks when I do my CLCT)

I mix everything up in a clean Gatorade bottle then transfer some to my 8 oz. applicator bottle for a less messy application. If necessary I add more water to it so I can get it through the nozzle. Again I section my hair into 4 sections to make it easier to do.

I put on a disposable shower cap. My hair is now prepped and ready to sit for 15-20 minutes. If I have extra clay mix in the bottle I use some for my face.

After thoroughly washing out you are supposed to apply a leave-in conditioner as you can see the white product in my hair below (I no longer do this step since I don’t need the extra conditioner).

The last step is to apply the gel on top of your leave-in. (now that I skip the conditioner steps I just put the gel in after washing the clay out)

After I finish putting in the gel I wrap my hair up in an old T-shirt to soak up the dripping water. Thirty minutes later I unwrap the T-shirt and let my hair finish air drying.

The first 7 days was time consuming because of having to do it everyday. I was able to endure and made it through. I do the steps every 3-5 days now instead of daily. As you can see by my added notes in parenthesis I am doing modifications to the steps. I have seen a lot of improvement in my problem areas. They are not fully hydrated yet but I can tell the difference in how my hair looks, feels, and its ability to absorb products better. I plan to continue on through the end of the year. I hope to see even more improved results by this time next year.
