It has been 5 years since I finished homeschooling our son. With each passing year, it started getting more easier once we persevered through the bumps and hurdles. I’m glad we hung in there and stuck with it til the end. There were so many benefits and I loved the front room view of seeing how our son progressed through each stage of his learning.
Through those learning years, I often research the many methods and ways of homeschooling. Each family is different so you have to figure out what works for your family dynamic as well as your own kid's learning styles. We were what they call Eclectic because it fit in with the various ways we used different things to aid in educating our son. The more I understood what was available the better I was able to tap into things we had never considered before. I also took time to learn what his learning style was like.
I remember back as a new homeschooling mom I had so many questions. It was so overwhelming. I would Google “how to homeschool” and such so I could better understand it. I would also go visit the local library and find books or resources on homeschooling. The librarian helped by showing me the sections where they had books and information, and I even came across some free curriculum ideas. At some point, I stopped being overwhelmed when doing online searches because I knew exactly what I was looking for.
I began building a list to keep handy. I would like to share with you a list of homeschooling styles, methods, and philosophies I compiled in hopes it would help those who are new to homeschooling as well as those who’ve been at it for a while.
From a general list to different styles or methods of homeschooling types check these out:
Ambleside Online- Charlotte Mason
All in One Homeschool- Free Christian Homeschool curriculum
Virtual/Cyber School (Technically not homeschooling. It's really public school from home.)
I pray this list is a starting point to help the overwhelmed ease their confusion, doubts, and fears. For further resources in each individual method/style, a Google search should point you to more websites to check out :-)
