Why I Do Not Read the MSG Bible

I love reading God's Word. As I've grown and matured in my walk with Christ over the years, I do more than just read the Holy Bible. I study the Word of God as well. It is crucial for all believers to get into a regular habit of not only reading but studying God's Word.

Along with your Bible, you need good Bible Study tools like a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance to help you to understand words in the original Greek and Hebrew language. This can also be used along with a Strong's Complete Bible Dictionary of Bible Words. Other great tools are a Bible Encyclopedia, Bible Maps/Atlas, and even some Commentaries (depending on the source).

Scripture says in these verses:

2 Timothy 2:15(KJV)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Titus 1:9 (KJV)

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Here is a great video that explains about choosing Bible translations.
You can read about what the Message Bible (MSG) is as well as some beliefs the author Eugene Peterson holds to.

I cannot tell anyone which Bible version to choose. I only wrote this to encourage believers to dig in and study God's Words for themselves. How else will you know if what you hear is really in the Bible? I've been told things all my life that I found (after reading the Bible for myself) were not Biblically sound at all. We also don't just want to rely on Sunday morning sermons for all our spiritual food to live off of until the next Sunday, or whatever other days you fellowship with the brethren rolls around. You feed your physical body 3 or more meals a day to keep from being hungry. Your spirit is hungry so don't have a habit of starving it with long term fasting. That's not healthy so DON'T DO IT! Also, I wrote this to share my thoughts on why I don't choose to read certain Bible version like the MSG bible.  You can learn more about different Bible versions. Get into God's Word on a regular basis so you can grow closer to Him. He loves you and wants you to continue on building that personal relationship with Him.

Update: 10/2018
Check out "Is the KJV the best version?" It explains some great history behind this Bible version.
