A Christian Wife should embrace her God-given role {God’s Plan part 5}

Hi ladies! Today I'm sharing part 5 of my "God's Plan for the Christian Wife" series. Last week we learned that it's God's Will that a wife submits to her husband because He appointed the husband as head of the family. This week we get into the role of a Christian wife in her home/family. Let's see what God's Word has to say on this subject.

1 Timothy 5:14 Young women are to Marry, bear children, and manage the home.

KJV-
I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

In the Strong's Concordance adversary is (#G480) the word antikeimai which means- to lie opposite, be adverse, be contrary, withstand, oppose.

Reproachfully is (#G5484) the word charin which means- through favor of, on account of, be cause for, for sake of, or for the pleasure of.

(I have more Greek meanings to share with you. The word oikodespoteo (#G3616) means to rule or guide (run) the house. This is the Greek word for "keep house"Here are some Greek meanings that really caught me by surprise. The Greek word oikourgos (#G3626) comes from two root words: Oikos (#G3624) (do you recognize this word from the yogurt at the store?) which means a dwelling, a home, or a household, and ergon (#G2041) which means to work, labor or be employed. In these verses a oikourgos is a worker (keeper) at home. This is someone who guards (manages) the dwelling (home); a.k.a is a "keeper of the household".)

I have to say I LOVE my God-given role of being the keeper of the home (manage the house). I have found my true purpose once I embraced God's truth. I pray all my sisters in Christ will see the value in this as well.

Let's look at these in other translations:

GNV (1599 Geneva Bible)-
I will therefore that the younger women marry, and bear children, and govern the house, and give none occasion to the adversary to speak evil.

NKJV-
Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

ESV-
So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.

AMP-
So I would have younger [widows] marry, bear children, guide the household, [and] not give opponents of the faith occasion for slander or reproach.

NASB-
Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;

Here is another passage of scripture on women/wives role:

Titus 2:3-5 Primary Roles of the Wife

KJV-
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In the Strong's Concordance aged woman is (#G4247) the word presbutis which means- an old woman (older women).

Behaviour is (#G2688) the word katastema which means- a position or condition, conduct, demeanor.

Holiness is (#G2412) the word hieroprepes which means- reverent (suitable to a sacred character).

False accusers is (#G1228) the word diabolos which means- a traducer, Satan/devil, slanderer, accusing falsely.

Teachers of good things is (#G2567) the word kalodidaskalos which means- teacher of what is right (noble, honorable, and good).

Let's look at these in other translations:

GNV-
3 The elder women likewise, that they be in such behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not subject to much wine, but teachers of honest things.
4 That they may instruct the young women to be sober minded, that they love their husbands, that they love their children,
5 That they be temperate, chaste, keeping at home, good and subject unto their husbands, that the word of God be not evil spoken of.

NKJV-
3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—
4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

ESV-
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

AMP-
3 Bid the older women similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble,
4 So that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children,
5 To be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kindhearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands, that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited).

NASB
-
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

Note: Here we see that being a wife, mother, and homemaker are very important roles and a beautiful thing. The world has it all backward and places little valve on the role (s) of a biblical wife/mother. Women don't have to have college degrees and climb the corporate ladder to be someone of great value. Operating in your role as a wife, mom, and keeper of the home are of great value because this calling was given to you by our Heavenly Father. Our standard should be God's standard (not society's) and what He thinks (not society) is all that really matters.
