Holiday Snickerdoodles

During the holidays if you have stocked up on boxed cake mixes from sales, here is an easy way to make Snickerdoodles. I will share 2 ways to enjoy them for Christmas time.

Easy Holiday Snickerdoodles

Ingredients:
1 box of white or yellow cake mix
2 eggs
1/3-1/2 cup oil (melted butter would work too)
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Topping:
2 Tbsp. green decorating sugar
2 Tbsp. red decorating sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 - 375 degrees. Combine first four ingredients in a large bowl. A cookie like dough should form. In a smaller bowl combine the green sugar with 1 tsp. of cinnamon. In another small bowl combine the red sugar with the other tsp. of cinnamon. We used a Tbsp. measuring spoon to scoop out dough and rolled into balls. Roll the ball in one of the sugar cinnamon mix. Lay on parchment lined cookie sheet (I used a baking mat instead) and repeat making balls until you have filled up your cookie sheet (make sure they are at least 1" apart). Flatten the balls a little and bake for 8-10 minutes. Place on cooling rack and finish the process with any leftover dough. Makes around 34 cookies.

Egg Nog Snickerdoodles

Ingredients:
1 box of white cake mix
3 eggs
1/2 cup butter (melted)
1/4- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

Glaze:
1-2 cups Powdered Sugar
2 Tbsp. Egg Nog
pinch of Nutmeg

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 or 375 degrees. Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl. Stir together to thoroughly mix. My batter was a little softer than expected so I let it sit for a minute or two. You will notice it gets thicker. On a parchment lined cookie sheet (I used a baking mat instead)put spoonfuls of dough 1 inch apart until filled up. If you desire try to flatten your dough a little. My family likes theirs puffy so I didn't bother doing that. Bake cookies 8-10 minutes but no more than 12 minutes until browned on bottom. Let sit a minute then remove cookies and place on a cooling rack to finish cooling off. Continue steps above until all the dough is used.

Combine all ingredients for glaze and drizzle over cookies. Let sit to harden then enjoy!

Easy Fudge Candies

I love making these every Christmas. I make multiple batches to give out to neighbors and people we know. They are not healthy but oh so good!

Ingredients:
1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
3 cups Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 cup Chunky Peanut Butter (optional)
2 cups Mini Marshmallows
1/8 tsp. Kosher Salt
1.5 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Directions:
In a microwaveable glass bowl combine milk, chocolate chips, and peanut butter. Microwave in 15 - 20 second intervals until melted (stir between intervals). Stir in marshmallows until melted (may have to microwave for 20 seconds to get thoroughly melted). Last, add in salt and vanilla extract. Be sure everything is thoroughly combined. Pour into a foil or parchment-lined square pan. Let cool (refrigerate) until the chocolate has firmed. Cut into little squares and enjoy.

Note: You can play around with this recipe by changing up the flavor of the chips. Here is another one I like to make:

Easy Peanut Butter Fudge

Ingredients:
1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cups White Chocolate Chips
2 cups Peanut Butter Chips
1/4 cup salted Peanuts, chopped (optional)
2 cups Mini Marshmallows
1.5 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Directions:
In a microwaveable glass bowl combine milk, white chocolate, and peanut butter chips. Microwave in 15 - 20 second intervals until melted (stir between intervals). Stir in marshmallows until melted (may have to microwave 20 seconds to get thoroughly melted) and chopped peanuts. Last, add in vanilla and be sure everything is thoroughly combined. Pour into a foil or parchment-lined square pan. Let cool (refrigerate) until the chocolate has firmed. Cut into little squares and serve.

Make Your Own Cookie Butter

I have never bought Cookie Butter from the store. The cost is way more than I’m willing to pay. Thankfully I found pins on Pinterest with different ways to make your own. I have a base recipe I use to create many different flavors by swapping out the type of cookie used. Here is how I make mine:

Ingredients:
2 to 2.5 cups of cookie crumbs (like shortbread, Nutter Butter, Oreo, Vanilla Wafers, etc.)
1/2 stick of butter (melted)
1/2 cup of Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/4 cup Evaporated Milk

Directions:
If your choice of cookies has cream in the middle, you need to scrape that out first. (Save this cream to stir/blend in at the end.) Put cookies in a food processor and pulse to turn into crumbs. It took me around 12 Fudge stripe or 50 Vanilla Wafers to get up to 2 cups. In a small bowl mix together the melted butter, sweet milk, and evaporated milk. Slowly add this mixture to crumbs in a food processor. Blend to make a paste-like texture. If you find it’s too thin, you can add in more cookie crumbs.

Store this in a covered Mason jar in the refrigerator. When I’m ready to use it, I let mine sit out on the counter for 20-30 minutes to soften to a spreadable consistency. I like serving this with apple slices, graham crackers, or with homemade sweet breads (Banana, Zucchini, or Pumpkin).

Nutella Frosted Rice Krispie Treats

Follow the directions for making Rice Krispie Treats. The recipe can be found on the back of the cereal box or a bag of Marshmallows (I like to use 1 full bag plus another 1/2 bag of the mini ones). Once they are cooled proceed with the following----

Ingredients:
1 cup of Nutella
3/4 cup of Milk Chocolate Chips
1 Tbsp. of Butter (or Coconut Oil)

Directions:
While Rice Krispies are cooling down, begin making the frosting by combining all ingredients in a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 15-30 second increments (stirring after each increment). When the chocolate is melted to a smooth texture it is ready. Carefully pour melted chocolate over Rice Krispies and gently spread to cover completely. Transfer to refrigerator uncovered to cool completely (for about an hour). Once set you can cut them into squares to serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container in a cool place (or fridge).

Looking out my window
It’s a beautiful sunny Fall day. Our high for today is 66 degrees.

I am thinking
I’m glad holiday baking sales will start soon. I seriously need to stock up on some pantry staples.

I am thankful
For God’s provision during a power outage our city had a week ago. We had lots of rain and straight-line winds. It knocked down trees everywhere which caused them to fall in the streets and on power lines. Over 30,000 families were without electricity for 3-5 days. We had to do many things by candlelight. Street and traffic lights were out in many places. By God’s grace, we worked together as a family and weathered the storm in peace.

One of my favorite things
Watching birds of all kinds gather all around the bird feeder enjoying the food I put out for them. Another thing I love is looking at the squirrels running from tree to tree gathering up their nuts during the Fall. :-)

I am creating
Cleaning out my recipe section in my Holiday notebook. I’m taking out recipes I don’t use so I’ll only have what we enjoy the most.

I am wearing
A green long-sleeved shirt and Khakis pants.

I am reading
Still reading through the book of Philippians for the ladies online bible study.

I’m watching
Reasons why a wife Won’t follow her husband on YouTube. There is also videos on “Why a husband isn’t leading like Jesus”, “How to encourage your husband to lead when he doesn’t know how”, and “How a husband can lead a strong-willed wife”.

I am hoping
To finalize plans for Thanksgiving before the end of next week.

I am learning
About art/papercut journaling. Looking at Peggy’s Papercut Journey pictures has really sparked an interest for me.

In my kitchen

Every other week I have to make up a batch of Ghee. What can I say? This stuff is so useful in my everyday cooking. I can’t afford to pay the prices for it at the store. I come out cheaper making it myself. I decided to try making some Coconut Ghee since I had some coconut oil. I like it so much I may just make this more often than the regular I’ve been making.

Our family’s conviction…

Over the past decade, I’ve noticed how this time of year brings up some heated discussions among Christians over whether or not to celebrate certain holidays. With that also comes the discussion over various traditions surrounding those holidays. Every family has their own preferences and convictions. Some people choose to continue on with family traditions from their childhood while others believe God has opened their eyes to things they never considered before.

A Christian wife must be careful so that she is being a wise woman and not a foolish one who tears her house down (Proverbs 14:1) over such matters. We as wives need to discuss these things with our husband’s to show our respect for them having an opinion on the matter. Even if we don’t agree with them about some things, we should continue showing respect and go before God in prayer about our concerns.

After our son was born my husband and I discussed how we would handle holidays with him as he was growing up. Both of us grew up going to church and celebrating all holidays the everyone else in the world does. Through prayer and lots of researching the roots and history of different holidays, we came to a mutual decision for each one. In our house, we don’t participate in Halloween because we see a LOT in scripture (see below) that makes the whole thing questionable. We have heard many opinions of alternatives, but my husband is not convinced that God would have us do any different. He doesn’t want any money used towards supporting this holiday. I support him in this so that means no decorations, costumes, candy, parties, trick or treating, going to hunted houses or to see horror movies, etc.

We believe we are called to be different from the world. Living different has allowed us to witness in ways we didn’t imagine. That is why we have different convictions concerning how we live our lives. We homeschooled, I’m the keeper of our home (don’t work outside the home), we celebrate Christmas without Santa and Easter without Bunnies and baskets (we observe the Resurrection instead). These are just a few of our family’s convictions. It doesn’t mean I have no respect for other families' convictions (See Romans chapter 14). We even taught our son (when he was younger) to respect other people’s convictions that are not the same as ours. So here are some scriptures that many Christian families (like ours) base their convictions in choosing not to participate in Halloween:

Leviticus 19:30-31 (CSB)

30 Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the Lord.
31 Do not turn to mediums or consult spiritists, or you will be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (CSB)

9 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.
10 No one among you is to sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire, practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery,
11 cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or inquire of the dead.
12 Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.
13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.
14 Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do this.

Isaiah 5:20 (CSB)

Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil
,
who substitute darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who substitute bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.

Mark 7:13 (NKJV)

making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.

Romans 12:2, 9 (NKJV)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

Romans 13:12 (NKJV)

The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

1 Corinthians 10:21 (NKJV)

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (NKJV)

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”

17 Therefore
Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean
,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”

Ephesians 5:6-12 (NKJV)

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

1 John 4:18 (NKJV)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

3 John 11 (NKJV)

Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

Here is a video from an ex witch who is now a born again believer...

What I’m up to this Fall

Fall is here and I see the colorful leaves piling up all over the front and back yard. The allergy headaches have come for a visit, but I really love this time of year. The days are getting shorter, and we’re getting temps in the lower 80s. I’m starting to crave turkey and dressing with cranberry sauce so I’m glad we will celebrate Thanksgiving in a few months. I have some things I want to do. I make a list in my journal each year of the things I’d like to experience and make happen. Here is a list of those things.

My Fall Bucket List

* Do some Fall cleaning
* Decorate the house for Fall
* Get out the Fall scented candle wax (to use daily)
* Take our bed comforters, pillows, and curtains to the laundromat to use the BIG washer and dryers.
* Make LOTS of Apple Butter
* Make Pear Butter
* Make Pumpkin Butter
* Roast and puree some sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and different squash. Freeze to use in future meals.
* Bake sweet breads (zucchini, banana, pumpkin, etc.)
* Make chili, stews, and chowders
* Do some batch cooking (different kinds of beans). Freeze for use in soups and chili
* Drink lots of herbal and green teas during cooler days/nights
* Learn how to make my own Elderberry Syrup, to stay stocked up through the Fall and Winter seasons.

Don’t get it twisted sister {Submission is NOT…}

This month I have been sharing some scriptures and thoughts to ponder on what the Bible instructs wives about submitting to their own husband. If you are wondering what I'm talking about, please read God's Plan for the Christian Wife part 4 and God's Plan for the Christian Wife part 6. I have done further study on this topic of wives submitting and wanted to come back to share more thoughts for clarity on what true Biblical submission entails. First, let’s define some words from the first 6 verses in 1 Peter 3.
KJV-
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
In the Strong’s Concordance the word subjection (#G5293) is the word hupotasso which means= to be or rank under, obey

The word obey not (#G544) is the word apeitheo which means= not believe (willfully and perversely), disobedient, unbelieving

The word be won (#G2770) is the word kerdaino which means= to gain, acquire, win

The word conversation (#G391) is the word anastrophe which means= behavior, conduct

The word behold (#G2029) is the word epopteuo which means= inspect, watch, look upon, be an eyewitness

The word chaste (#G53) is the word hagnos which means= innocent, modest, perfect- clean, pure, holy

The word fear (#G5401) is the word phobos which means= alarm or fright, panic flight, terror

The word adorning (#G2889) is the word kosmos which means= orderly arrangement, world

The word hidden (#G2927) is the word kruptos which means= concealed, private, secret

The word not corruptible (#G862) is the word aphthartos which means= undecaying, imperishable, indestructible

The word meek (#G4239) is the word praus which means= mild, gentle, humble

The word quiet (#G2272) is the word hesuchios which means= still (undisturbed), tranquil, peaceful

The word spirit (#G4151) is the word pneuma which means= mental disposition

The word of great price (#G4185) is the word poluteles which means= very precious, very costly, great value

The word manner (#G3779) is the word houto which means= in this way, like, after that

The word amazement (#G4423) is the word ptoesis which means= alarm, excitement, dismay

Note: It would be a good idea to check out Matthew Henry's Commentary. The main part for the wives starts in the 2nd paragraph.

Now back to what submission is not. We must not make the mistake of carrying the text on submission beyond its true limits. In God's Word you don’t see God the Father asking a wife to do the following:

Submission means a wife can NEVER open her mouth, period.

Submission means a wife can NEVER have an opinion.

Submission means a wife can NEVER disagree with a decision her husband is considering.

Submission means a wife can NEVER lovingly warn her husband if it appears he’s about to make the wrong decision.
(While she may not agree with her husband, she still has to watch HOW she approaches him and with what attitude it is done in. Remember she MUST be respectful, kind, and gentle because scripture says this is the way a Christian wife is to be.)

Submission means accepting physical, verbal, or mental abuse as God's will. No no no! A wife is NOT to be a punching bag, a doormat, or even steal, lie, cheat, commit any acts of adultery, or do anything else for her husband that God's Word commands the believer not to do. Remember Colossians 3:18? Her submission has to be fitting unto the Lord.

Submission means just suffering PASSIVELY for the Lord's sake. No, that’s not biblically sound. Please read 1 Peter 3:17 very carefully.

Submission means being afraid of doing the right thing. Again, no! That is not biblically sound either.

It's important for us to have a truly Biblical understanding of submission because people get it all twisted. We need to know how God wants us wives to carry this out to bring Him glory rather than listen to people (especially women) who oppose what God clearly states in His Word is His Will for wives. They have gotten wrong information from the world and are believing a lie straight from the pit of hell. Many women don't have a true understanding (like I once did) of what God is asking of a wife. That's why it's so crucial to study His Word, pray for understanding, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in this. This completes my God's Plan for Christian Wives series. I pray what I have shared has blessed someone.

Today I want to cover submission again. This time the focus is on how to submit to an unsaved husband or one who does not obey God. Let’s dive on in God’s Word to see what it says in 1 Peter.

1 Peter 3:1-6 Submission when living with an unsaved husband or one who does not obey God’s Word.

KJV-
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

(A saved wife married to an unsaved husband should not think she's to go around demanding her physical and spiritual rights and reject her husband's authority (leadership). She is not to take on a superior attitude thinking she knows more than her husband and treat him with disdain, rejection, or become indifferent to him when she sees other men at church who loves Christ. If she keeps going on like that, he could become distasteful and repulsive to her. This is out of the will of God. She is not to preach to or at him and badger him about the gospel. It's her example of living out the Christian life that will speak volumes; not her words to him. This does not mean a wife is inferior to her husband in any way.)

Now let's look at this verse in other translations:

GNV (1599 Geneva Bible)-
1 Likewise let the wives be subject to their husbands, that even they which obey not the word, may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives.
2 While they behold your pure conversation which is with fear:
3 Whose appareling let it not be that outward, with braided hair, and gold put about, or in putting on of apparel:
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, which consisteth in the incorruption of a meek and quiet spirit, which is before God a thing much set by.
5 For even after this manner in time past did the holy women, which trusted in God, tire themselves, and were subject to their husbands.
6 As Sarah obeyed Abraham, and called him Sir: whose daughters ye are, while ye do well, not being afraid of any terror.

NKJV-
1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,
2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.
3 Do not let your adornment be merely outwardarranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel
4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

NASB-
1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,
2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.
3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses;
4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands;
6  just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.

ESV-
1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives,
2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear
4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands,
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.

AMP-
1 In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on them, and adapt yourselves to them], so that even if any do not obey the Word [of God], they may be won over not by discussion but by the [godly] lives of their wives,
2 When they observe the pure and modest way in which you conduct yourselves, together with your reverence [for your husband; you are to feel for him all that reverence includes: to respect, defer to, revere him—to honor, esteem, appreciate, prize, and, in the human sense, to adore him, that is, to admire, praise, be devoted to, deeply love, and enjoy your husband].
3 Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with [elaborate] interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes;
4 But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.
5 For it was thus that the pious women of old who hoped in God were [accustomed] to beautify themselves and were submissive to their husbands [adapting themselves to them as themselves secondary and dependent upon them].
6 It was thus that Sarah obeyed Abraham [following his guidance and acknowledging his headship over her by] calling him lord (master, leader, authority). And you are now her true daughters if you do right and let nothing terrify you [not giving way to hysterical fears or letting anxieties unnerve you].

Something to ponder: How can homosexual “marriage” be God's Will? Of all the scriptures in the Bible, there is nothing there (examples of other couples like them) fitting God’s described way of marriage. They can’t find their kind of “marriage” represented anywhere in the holy scriptures. What they have is a man-made “marriage”. Think about it- Why would another woman be/want to be in subjection (submissive) to another woman like what’s stated in verses like these?  For what purpose would it serve? Before I ask my next question, let me share the verse talking to husbands...

I Peter 3:7

KJV-
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

AMP-
In the same way, you husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way [with great gentleness and tact, and with an intelligent regard for the marriage relationship], as with someone physically weaker, since she is a woman. Show her honor and respect as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered or ineffective.

Here’s my next question: What man needs to understand another man as a weaker vessel? For what purpose? I don't recall men liking to be referred to or thought of as weak in ANY way. If anything, men get highly offended when thought of as weak. Those of us saying we are followers of Christ must let God's word be our guide in how we view what the world calls the right way or a good thing compared to what our Heavenly Father says is acceptable, right, or good in His sight. We must choose NOT side up with the world (or those calling themselves LGBT--- “Christians”) when God says otherwise. We must stand for truth and be the salt and light the world desperately needs.

A 2nd look at the women in Titus chapter 2

In my last post I shared a wife’s role from Titus 2. We took a look at some Greek definitions from The Strong’s Concordance. I did not finish defining all the important terms and would like to continue on so we can take a closer look at the roles of the older and younger women. First let me share a snippet of that post with Greek meanings of some key words.
Titus 2:3-5 (KJV)
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

In the Strong's Concordance aged woman is (#G4247) the word presbutis which means- an old woman (older women).

Behaviour is (#G2688) the word katastema which means- a position or condition, conduct, demeanor.

Holiness is (#G2412) the word hieroprepes which means- reverent (suitable to a sacred character).

False accusers is (#G1228) the word diabolos which means- a traducer, Satan/devil, slanderer, accusing falsely.

Teachers of good things is (#G2567) the word kalodidaskalos which means- teacher of what is right (noble, honorable, and good).
Let’s look at more meanings of key words starting with verse 4.
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
In the Strong’s Concordance Young Women is (#G3501) the word neos which means- young, youthful, younger, new, fresh.

Sober is (#G4994) the word sophronizo which means- to recall one to his senses, make of sound mind, admonish, discipline, correct, true balance.

Love their husbands is (#G5362) the word philandros which means- a wife is to be fond of or affectionately love her husband.

Love their children is (#G5388) the word philoteknos which means- a maternal love for/be fond of one’s children.

Discreet is (#G4998) the word sophron which means- of sound mind, self-controlled, sober, temperate, modest., chaste.

Chaste is (#G53) the word hagnos which means- innocent, modest, clean, pure, perfect, holy, sacred.

Keeper at Home is (#G3626) the word oikourgos. (I covered this one in my last post). It means working at home, a stayer at home-be domestically inclined, a good housekeeper.

Obedient is (#G5293) the word hupotasso. (I covered this one in a previous post as well). It means to subordinate, rank under, be subject to, submit self unto.

Blasphemed is (#G987) the word blasphemeo which means- to slander, defame, rail on, speak evil of/against, revile, to speak lightly or profanely of sacred things.

Looking at all these meanings gives us lots to ponder. When looking at the roles of the older and younger women, how much of these things in the above scriptures are accurately being carried out? As you observe the way many younger women act, is it noticeable that many older women (especially in the church) have dropped the ball on teaching what is good according to scripture? Most just teach what “they think” is right to do. This has left so many younger women (daughters included) hurt or in a state of confusion. When an older, spiritually mature/wiser woman does come along to advise, they don’t want to hear what they have to say on these matters. Homes, families, and society as a whole are suffering greatly because of it. This is not the Will of God ladies. I encourage you to read John Gill’s Commentary of Titus 2:5 for more biblical insight.

A Christian Wife should embrace her God-given role {God’s Plan part 5}

Hi ladies! Today I'm sharing part 5 of my "God's Plan for the Christian Wife" series. Last week we learned that it's God's Will that a wife submits to her husband because He appointed the husband as head of the family. This week we get into the role of a Christian wife in her home/family. Let's see what God's Word has to say on this subject.

1 Timothy 5:14 Young women are to Marry, bear children, and manage the home.

KJV-
I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

In the Strong's Concordance adversary is (#G480) the word antikeimai which means- to lie opposite, be adverse, be contrary, withstand, oppose.

Reproachfully is (#G5484) the word charin which means- through favor of, on account of, be cause for, for sake of, or for the pleasure of.

(I have more Greek meanings to share with you. The word oikodespoteo (#G3616) means to rule or guide (run) the house. This is the Greek word for "keep house"Here are some Greek meanings that really caught me by surprise. The Greek word oikourgos (#G3626) comes from two root words: Oikos (#G3624) (do you recognize this word from the yogurt at the store?) which means a dwelling, a home, or a household, and ergon (#G2041) which means to work, labor or be employed. In these verses a oikourgos is a worker (keeper) at home. This is someone who guards (manages) the dwelling (home); a.k.a is a "keeper of the household".)

I have to say I LOVE my God-given role of being the keeper of the home (manage the house). I have found my true purpose once I embraced God's truth. I pray all my sisters in Christ will see the value in this as well.

Let's look at these in other translations:

GNV (1599 Geneva Bible)-
I will therefore that the younger women marry, and bear children, and govern the house, and give none occasion to the adversary to speak evil.

NKJV-
Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

ESV-
So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.

AMP-
So I would have younger [widows] marry, bear children, guide the household, [and] not give opponents of the faith occasion for slander or reproach.

NASB-
Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no occasion for reproach;

Here is another passage of scripture on women/wives role:

Titus 2:3-5 Primary Roles of the Wife

KJV-
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

Let's look at these in other translations:

GNV-
3 The elder women likewise, that they be in such behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not subject to much wine, but teachers of honest things.
4 That they may instruct the young women to be sober minded, that they love their husbands, that they love their children,
5 That they be temperate, chaste, keeping at home, good and subject unto their husbands, that the word of God be not evil spoken of.

NKJV-
3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—
4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

ESV-
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

AMP-
3 Bid the older women similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble,
4 So that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children,
5 To be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kindhearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands, that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited).

NASB
-
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

Note: Here we see that being a wife, mother, and homemaker are very important roles and a beautiful thing. The world has it all backward and places little valve on the role (s) of a biblical wife/mother. Women don't have to have college degrees and climb the corporate ladder to be someone of great value. Operating in your role as a wife, mom, and keeper of the home are of great value because this calling was given to you by our Heavenly Father. Our standard should be God's standard (not society's) and what He thinks (not society) is all that really matters.

TSW Daybook~ September 2019

For Today: 9/2/19
______________________________

Looking out my window
Today is Labor Day but I don't see anyone outside grilling. It could be due to how humid it is today. It's partly cloudy and our high for today is 90 degrees.

I am thinking
That it really wasn’t really that hot this summer. I believe the highest temps we’ve had is probably 98 degrees.

I am thankful
My favorite season is just around the corner…come on Fall!

One of my favorite things
Looking at houses with Fall decorations when out and about around town :-)

I am creating
Nothing. I’m actually just decluttering and cleaning out some files from my laptop.

I am wearing
A red shirt, blue capris, and flip flops.

I am reading
Still reading through “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon.

I’m watching
Traditional Cooking videos on Youtube.

I am hoping
I get some Elderberry Syrup and local Raw Honey soon. Allergies are starting to act up and it's annoying :(

I am learning
How to make our own whey and cream cheese (from yogurt) as well as our own buttermilk. I can’t believe how easy it is to do.

In my kitchen
I mentioned before we were eating salads throughout the week all summer. I'm happy to say we stuck to it and lost an inch around our waistlines. We will continue eating salads for the few weeks of Summer that are left.

Here are a few of those yummy salads we enjoyed!

Pictured from left to right is:
Top- Club Sandwich Salad, and BBQ Pulled Pork Salad
Bottom- Chicken and Ham Cobb Salad, and last is a Crabmeat Cobb Salad.

Made some Ghee a.k.a. Clarified Butter. Liquid Gold! YUM!

The photo above and below is the start of a new (but permanent) lifestyle change for our family.

Board room
Try making your own cream cheese, buttermilk, or Ghee
You'll be amazed at how cheap and easy it is to do.

Post Script
I invite you to check out the Weston A. Price Foundation. There is a wealth of information there about the foods we eat.
